RHYTHM OF SPIRIT

Shamanic drumming is an ancient technique of beating the drum 180 beats per minute and is used to access the Theta waves of the brain. When we are stressed we are in the Beta state and when we meditate we are in the Alpha state.  Theta is the dream like state accessed by beating one monotonous strike on the drum for a period of time. We will honor the four directions and enter into a space of serenity and peace.  Come meet your power animal or totem through visual dreaming and be open to insight. Let the drum beat carry a healing message.  Will your animal be the Bear, Buffalo, or Coyote?  What messages do your power animals have for you? We will learn how to shamanic drum for ourselves and others. We will also connect our spirit with each other through the circle as we drum the heart beat of Mother Earth.  Share your personal power animal vision with others if you wish.  Bring a frame drum and beater if you have one or one will be provided for you.  2 hours.

Monthly Series and Drop in Workshops

New!  Co-ed Rhythm Circle for Drumming Outdoors! (Drop-in)

When:  Second and Fourth Wednesday evenings  6:30-7:30 pm

Aug. 11 & 25

Where:   Somewhere outside!  (Weather permitting).

Description:  Got a case of the Wednesdays?  This group is for you!  Facilitated by WDC percussionist Bonnie Hering, the focus of the Co-ed Rhythm Circle is to promote spiritual healing, stress relief and joy by building a diverse community of players who are interested in coming together on a bi-monthly basis to explore percussion, rhythm and freedom of expression.

Why:  Drumming is - in and of itself, and without effort - a meditation.  When we sit down to drum, we lose ourselves in practiced technique, soothing vibration and energized synchronicity of heart, mind and spirit.  Communal desires are awakened in our being and we become part of a homogeneous force that inspires joy and relieves us of our stresses.

Logistics: Meet at 6:10pm to move drums/chairs, play from 6:30-7:30.  (Or, if you have your own drum, meet on location with your drum and a chair/stool at 6:30).  All levels of experience are welcomed and encouraged.

Fee: $5-$15 sliding scale, payment taken evening of circle
